Man held in Ochi to be questioned for murder

A man, who the St Ann police have been seeking to question in relation to a murder in Pineapple earlier this year, is in their custody.

The police are not releasing the identity of the man at this time as he is to face an identification parade in the coming days.

The man was picked up by the police on Thursday, June 29 sometime after 9 p.m. in the Pineapple area.

Head of crime for St Ann, deputy superintendent (DSP) Richard Hilton explained that the police will carry out a question and answer session with the man once legal representation is settled.

The man in the police custody will be questioned in relation to the murder of a man who was shot dead while he was sleeping in his car.

That dead man is 44-year-old Leslie Burgher otherwise called Burgher, who was murdered before day break on Wednesday, February 22.

Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that at about 3 a.m. on that Wednesday morning, residents heard explosions and called the police.

The body of Burgher was then found, with several gunshot wounds in his gray Toyota Corolla motorcar. The police information arm, the CCU also stated that Burgher was originally from David Lane in Portland.

Reports to The Times at the time of his death had indicated that Burgher recently started operating a taxi and that he continued to do odd jobs including gardening, running errands and construction work. There are reports that he was building a house on a section of nearby capture land but often slept in his car at a yard on Main Street in Pineapple. That’s where he was killed.

Nothing is known of the motive for his death but sources told the North Coast Times that he had recently come into some money from an insurance claim and that may have been the cause of his death.
