A man wanted for the abduction of a nine year old girl nearly two years ago has been held. However, some reports indicate that the police have little information on him and may have to release him.
The man was apprehended by the police in Moneague on Tuesday, January 17 for the February 2014 abduction of the girl. Police held the man reportedly after a resident identified him and pointed him out to cops.
In police custody is handy man and musician Donald Kingston, otherwise called ‘Parson’ or ‘Rugu’ of Exchange, Ocho Rios.
The child was reportedly abducted from her home in Warrick Mount, Great Pond, Ocho Rios on the morning of February 7, 2014, at about 4 o’clock.
Allegations at that time were that the girl was taken from a bed which she was sharing with her mother and other siblings.
A resident, for whom Kingston sometimes worked, at the time, had also confirmed that she saw Kingston busier than ever that morning and that he had gone to purchase two meals.
Further reports stated that on that morning after being kidnapped, the child was left in Kingston’s room, where he lived alone. Upon discovering the door was left unlocked, the child went out into the street. She was seen by a resident who, by inference, knew something was wrong.
The resident and a friend had a brief conversation with the child and did a physical inspection of her. It was during this conversation that the child pointed out her abductor whom the woman happened to know.
The child was taken to the hospital and Kingston’s residence searched. A cell phone belonging to the child’s mother was recovered from the house. Kingston was not at home when the search was conducted.
It was not clear how up to date the police records are and whether they are holding Kingston in connection with the abduction.
The Times was informed by a source that the police did not have substantial information about the abduction and for that reason they are not able to keep Kingston in custody on such a charge.
The police had initially released a composite sketch of the man after the girl was returned. However, they had not been able to hold Kingston.
