A man charged with stabbing his baby mother’s uncle to death is to face a hearing on April 6, 2017.
The accused man, Purnell Malcolm, appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, February 2.
Malcolm was charged with the 2014 murder of 25-year-old Lincoln Jones, a farmer of Islington, St Mary.
When the matter came before the court last Thursday, the crown prosecutor indicated that a hearing date was ready to be set in the case.
The bundles or files in the case are to be served on Malcolm’s attorney by March 23, while the hearing is scheduled to take place on April 6.
Malcolm’s bail was extended until that time.
Lincoln Jones was stabbed several times on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at about 7:30 p.m., when he intervened in a dispute between Malcolm — who was a college student at the time — and Malcolm’s girlfriend, who was his (Jones’) niece.
Jones was allegedly stabbed by an enraged Malcolm, who had accused Jones’ niece, the mother of his child, of being unfaithful.
In a story that was carried by the North Coast Times, Jones, who lived next door to his niece, heard a commotion at her house and ran to investigate when he saw Malcolm wielding a knife. It was further reported that Jones saw a knife being held at Bennett’s throat.
Jones managed to shove Malcolm to the ground and get his niece out of harm’s way.
However, Malcolm then attacked Jones with a knife and stabbed him several times over his body.
While Jones lay bleeding to death, Malcolm reportedly ran away from the scene.
He was then turned over to the police by his father.
Malcolm made his first court appearance on July 3, 2014, where he was then remanded into custody.
