Man charged in Pimento Walk murder

A man, who was charged with the murder of a youth from Pimento Walk, Ocho Rios was scheduled to appear before the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on Monday, March 21 to answer to the charge.

This order was made by senior resident magistrate Andrea Thomas on Thursday, March 17. However, the accused man was not in court on the day.

Clayton Smith is charged in relation to the murder of 20-year-old Orane Gaynor of Pimento Walk, St. Ann, whose body was found in a ravine in the community with multiple gunshot wounds, on Saturday, March 5.

In court on Thursday, attorney Ayana Royes of the chambers of Oswest Senior Smith had made an application for her client to be charged or released. She also related that the accused had a broken leg and there was considerable swelling of the leg noticed with bleeding.

The investigating officer, who was present in court, noted that following a question and answer session, the accused man was charged with murder on Wednesday, March 16.

When RM Thomas enquired what he will be doing about the allegations made by the attorney with regards to the accused man’s injuries, the investigating officer said that he passed on that information to the relevant officers and assured the man would get the treatment.

The accused man, Smith will face the courts on Monday, March 17.

Allegations are that at about 9:30 a.m. on March 5, the body of Orane Gaynor of Pimento Walk, was found in a ravine in the community with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Reports indicate that Gaynor was shot from as far as the Thursday night of that week and his body thrown into a 70ft ravine. It was found after his family members starting searching for him and someone discovered a foot of his slipper along a dirt path.

His murder is the second in that community since the start of this year. On January 5, another youth, twenty-year-old Mario Hall was shot dead at his home in Pimento Walk.

Police who have stepped up activities in the area held Smith in one of their operations.
