The man charged in connection to an Ocho Rios shooting was once again remanded into custody when he appeared before the St Ann Parish Court.

Charged is 21-year-old Javaun Brown.

When the case came before the court on Thursday, May 4, it was said that the file for the matter which is to be transferred to the St Ann Circuit Court is not yet ready. A medical certificate, the complainant’s statement, a ballistics report, Brown’s chain of custody report and another statement are all said to be outstanding.

Brown also appeared on another matter which was not disclosed in court.

Brown will remain in custody until Tuesday, May 9, when the matter is set for mention.

Reports are that on Saturday, April 15, the two men, Brown and the complainant had a dispute in Carib Heights, Ocho Rios, St Ann.

According to the investigating officer in the case, a piece of wood was used to hit Brown in the head during the altercation.

Further reports are that Brown then left and returned with a firearm. It was reported that shots were fired and the complainant shot from behind.

The police were contacted and a firearm was seized. Brown was taken into custody while attempting to escape.

The complainant was brought to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital and later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) for treatment.

The complainant was absent on Thursday.

Brown is represented by attorney Ernest Smith. Mr Smith did not continue a bail application which was initiated by junior attorney Yannica Gabbidon on a previous date.

Allegations are that Brown and the complainant have a long-standing dispute and that he (Brown) has reported the matter to the police before. It was also said that Brown also requested a restraining order but it was never served on the complainant.

In her application, Ms Gabbidon had said that Brown’s actions were as a result of repeated provocation by the complainant.
