Man arrested for $56,000 liquor bill

A man who was charged for obtaining credit by fraud appeared before the St. Ann Parish Court for his first mention date on Thursday, September 29.

He is Nygone Davis of Pimento Walk near Ocho Rios in the parish.

Reports are that on September 24, the accused went to Mystic Ridge in Ocho Rios, and consumed liquor including Hennessey amounting to J$56,000. He then left and didn’t pay the bill. It was after the incident that a worker at the establishment identified Davis in Ocho Rios and alerted the police.

When asked by parish judge Peter Wilson if he is guilty of the crime he replied “not guilty” and stated his circumstances.  According to the accused he went to the said location where a number of his friends were drinking. They then offered him a drink and he accepted the offer. After consuming the liquor, they left the location, leaving him there as well as the unpaid bill.

Judge Wilson stated that he referred to such cases as “dine and dash”.  He said, it is the last person who leaves who is responsible for items that were credited and the charge for such an offence is a three-year sentence or a fine of J$3 million.

The matter is set for mention on December 6 of this year and Davis was granted bail in the sum of J$60,000 with surety and reporting to the Ocho Rios Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.bail
