Police had named Shirley as the main suspect in the death of his common-law spouse, Cameka Haley, a 44-year-old hospital worker.

Her son discovered Ms. Haley’s lifeless body on Saturday morning, January 27, and alerted the authorities.

Upon arrival, the police found her lying on her back on the floor, dressed in a nightgown. They said there were noticeable black and blue marks on her neck and spots of blood on her clothing.

On Monday, January 29, the police conducted a search for Mr. Shirley in Higgins Land, Alexandria, St. Ann. The police report that upon their arrival, Mr. Shirley, who had reportedly ingested a corrosive substance, jumped into a concrete water tank. He was rescued with the assistance of residents and transported to St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition.
