A man is dead and another is in hospital with gunshot wounds following a shooting incident in Lime Hall, St Ann, last evening.
Dead is 19-y-o Rojay Bender while in hospital is Odane Barnaby o/c Chigga 20, both unemployed of Lime Hall.
Reports to the North Coast Times are that about 8:20 (April 11) residents of the small community near St Ann’s Bay heard a barrage of gun shots and ran to the square to see both men on the ground bleeding. Bender was pronounced dead at hospital while Barnaby was admitted.
Reports that the shooters came on a motorcycle have not been confirmed. Some residents say a group of men came from the Higgin Town end after a youth from that neighbouring community had been beaten by men from Lime Hall. They said that following the shooting the men escaped in bushes in the community.
Residents are expressing fear about security in the community pointing to several violent incidents including four murders this year and an armed hold up of a bar last week.
The community has been in a state of instability since late last year November when four residents disappeared from a farm after the farm house and other buildings were burnt to the ground. The four residents have still not been found and are feared dead.
