MOTHER, SISTER OF OTHER MAN SHOT ARE IN CUSTODY

A licensed firearm holder shot dead a man and wounded another who reportedly broke into his shop in Hope Bay, Portland, on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Dead is twenty-three-year-old Orlando Beverly of King Western district, St Andrew. The other man who was shot is also not from Portland and is in hospital.
One 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were seized.

Police say they have arrested eight people connected to the incident, including the mother and sister of the wounded man. They say the women tried to remove him from the parish.
Reports from the Port Antonio Police are that at about 2:30 a.m., Monday, August 25, armed men broke into a business establishment in Hope Bay and were challenged by the licensed firearm holder.
When the shooting subsided, two men were found with gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital, where Beverly was pronounced dead and the other man was treated.
Police reported that “Eight persons were taken into custody, two of whom are the mother and sister of the injured man.” They attempted to remove him from the parish. Police say all the captured culprits are not from the parish.
