LIBERTY LEARNING CENTRE GRADUATES 52

PRINCIPAL SAYS IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST YEARS EVER

Fifty-two students graduated from Liberty Learning Centre (LLC), representing the largest cohort of graduates since the institution was established 10 years ago.

The 52 — twenty-eight (28) girls and twenty-four (24) boys — were described by Principal Rosemarie Brent Harris as being part of “one of our best years ever” at LLC, Tower Isle, St Mary. She said the year was wonderful and spectacular, and she went on to praise the efforts of the school community, including the Board, teachers, other staff, and parents, for contributing to the success of the students.

In detailing activities for the school year 2024-25, starting last September, Mrs Brent Harris highlighted important events from conferences and Christmas Dinner through spectacular performances in JCDC competitions, and an Evening of Excellence in May.

The principal gave details of the performance of the graduates in the main areas of the Primary Exit Profile (PEP). The Ministry of Education scorecard reads: school average in Mathematics, 86.8%; Science, 94.3%; Social Studies, 96.2% and Language Arts, 98.8%.

Based on the performance, none of the students scored at the Beginning level, 1.9% at the Developing level, and the remainder scored in the Proficient and Highly Proficient groups.

She said the school compared very favourably in all core subjects, exceeding both regional and national averages in these subjects.

“This year, you came, you saw, you beat,” said Mrs Brent Harris.

The graduation was held at Ocho Rios Baptist Church, St Ann, with top-class entertainment by students and the school family. It offered the opportunity for students to be recognized for their academic excellence and achievements in co-curricular activities.

The top award, the prestigious Directors’ Award, was presented to the Student of the Year, Dhaneik Haughton. This esteemed award recognizes students who embody excellence in both academic and co-curricular activities. Dhaneik maintained an impressive average of over 90% throughout the academic year 2024-2025 and also served as Head Girl. She won several of the subject prizes. She has been accepted to Wolmer’s Girls School.

School Spirit Awards

Two students were recognized for their outstanding school spirit and representation. They were: – Matthew Rhule (male) – Accepted to Ocho Rios High School, and Shavanae Powell (female) – Accepted to Marymount High School

Top PEP Student

Ajani Foster was recognized as the overall top PEP student and top male and has been accepted to York Castle High School. (His placement score was 378, and he was in the 95th percentile ranking.)

The top female PEP performer was Gianna Foster.  She has been accepted to York Castle High School. (Her placement score was 369.7, and she was in the 97th percentile ranking.)

Citizenship Award

The Citizenship Award is reserved for students who are great citizens of Liberty. They arrive early each day and are often the last to leave, and contribute to the cleanliness and order of their classrooms. This year’s recipient was Head Boy Ricardo Atkinson. He was accepted to York Castle High School.

In addition to subject prizes won, several students received awards for their involvement in co-curricular activities, including the performing arts, for which the school is developing a solid reputation.
