ANNIVERSARY DINNER PLAYS OUT AS EVENING OF EXCELLENCE

It was a night of celebration of excellence.
Liberty Learning Centre (LLC) celebrated ten years of dedication to and striving for excellence. The occasion was their tenth-anniversary dinner at Casa Maria Hotel, Port Maria, St Mary. It was filled with music and songs as well as the giving and receiving of endorsement of the school’s achievements and its pursuit of excellence.

Among those showering praise on the school was First Lady Patricia Allen, wife of the Governor General. Lady Allen commended the school for its drive for excellence from its birth out of faith. She recalled that its founder signed a lease for property at Tower Isle, St Mary with no “guaranteed resources “. That, she said, took “great courage.”
Lady Allen said, “That leap of faith has borne fruit beyond measure.”

She commended the school’s “Dedication to fostering academic excellence, character development and holistic growth as evidenced by your successes as a top-performing school in the arts and your outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities.”
Lady Allen also commended the school’s resilience, as demonstrated by how it succeeded in keeping its doors open through the COVID-19 period. She said she was especially moved by the resilience and, as a “proud product of St Mary,” she was “deeply inspired by [the school’s] mission.”

Tributes to Liberty Learning Centre and endorsement of its progress also came from Tamar McKenzie, President of the Jamaica Independent School Association (JISA), and, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, from Region 2, Education Officer, Sha-Haney Froome Roberts.

Principal Rosemarie Brent-Harris said thanks to all those who had assisted the school in its development. She said special thanks to Howard and Norma Paulwell and to Yasania Banbury and her late husband, Dellvalle Banbury, who served as the school’s first chairman.

Pauline Gregory was awarded for being the longest-serving member of the ancillary staff, with nine years, and Nickeisha Bryan awarded as the longest-serving teacher, with ten years at LLC.
Carlyn Stewart the Chairman of LLC was heartily thanked by Principal Brent-Harris who said the chairman always made herself available for the business of the school. For her part, in presenting the vote of thanks, Ms Stewart was full of praise for the team at the school. She congratulated them stating that day after day they returned with commitment and drive to LLC.

Several past students and parents of former students were in attendance and were acknowledged.
The programme was interspersed with music, a major role being played by the school band that has developed a reputation for innovation and excellence. They provided an interlude of music, including a medley of folk songs, during dinner and other items throughout. Their performance was complemented by the melodious voice of Michelle Black in solo. She also teamed up with Alex Welcome to thrill the audience.

Liberty Learning Centre (LLC), Tower Isle, began operation in January 2014 with Fifty-Seven (57) students. LLC replaced the Creative Montessori which was at the same location. The 57 students included 17 students who were previously registered to the Creative Montessori.

In 2020 there were 180 Students. Today, there are 430 students at the institution with a full-time teaching staff of Thirty-Two (32). The part-time teachers include instructors in Karate, Dance, Spanish, Music and Computer.
