McLean who lived in Clearmont, St Ann, celebrated his 73rd birthday on September 11.

Jamintel is widely known as a well-informed, straight-talking, talk show caller. He has been an activist at different times for one or the other of the two main political parties. In recent years, his political preference has been for the JLP and he has appeared on various talk shows pushing the party’s causes.

In the late 90s and the early 2000s, he worked as a reporter on sports and general news, for the North Coast Times, IRIE FM, and other media houses.

McLean died Sunday, Sept 29, in the St Ann’s Bay Hospital. He had been admitted there Friday, following referral for kidney and other complications, by a private general practitioner.

JLP Constituency caretaker for South East St Ann, Damion Heslop said he was among those who sought medical assistance for McLean when the talk show-regular became ill more than a week ago. “He was a tireless, fearless, genuine, hardworking human being with a tremendous passion for national development and an abiding love for the Jamaica Labour Party,” said Heslop. He said Mc Lean was supporting his campaign and was one of his “workers”, up to the time of his death.
