16 JLP, 16 PNP AND ONE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE
Nomination Day drew huge crowds in the four Constituencies of St Ann on Thursday, February 8.
Each of the four Constituencies – North East, North West, South East and South West — has four Divisions.
Nowhere were the crowds larger than in St Ann North East where eight candidates were nominated — four from the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and four from the People’s National Party (PNP).
The huge crowds filled Wharf Road marching north from the area of the St Ann’s Bay Court on Main Street to the EOJ office.
The JLP team was led by Senator Matthew Samuda, his Party’s Constituency caretaker for North East St Ann, and the PNP by Dr Ryan Simpson, his Party’s Constituency caretaker.

Both men expressed confidence their Party would win all four Divisions in the Constituency.
In St Ann South East, Lydia Richards was first nominated, as an Independent Candidate, for the Bensonton Division. She was the PNP Councillor for Bensonton Division in the last Council but was not selected by the PNP for the upcoming Elections. The PNP’s Clovis ‘Junior’ Gohagen was nominated for that Party and Sasha Lee for the JLP. In the other three Divisions in SESA, three candidates were nominated By the JLP and three by the PNP.
And, large crowds were also out in Brown’s Town where eight candidates were nominated, four each from the JLP and PNP, in the North West St Ann Constituency.
In St Ann South West eight candidates were nominated, four for each of the two major parties at the Centre in Alexandria. There too there were no incidents.
