LABOUR DAY IN PORTLAND

SOME PUT VOLUNTARY WORK INTO LABOUR  DAY

The number of people putting work into Labour Day in Portland was not as big as in years past but there was work all over the parish. These included improving building access for the disabled; working on schools and even cutting community playfields.

The focus of Labour Day, May 23, this year was to help improve access to people with disabilities.

The parish project was at the Port Antonio Infirmary where they started putting in a ramp and paving a walkway for people with movement disabilities.

At Poinciana Park in Fairy Hill, the community centre was painted, and a mesh was placed in the front of the building and the playfield.

Colin Beckford, an ardent community leader, spearheaded the operations.
