MICHAEL BELNAVIS, JLP
OCHO RIOS DIVISION, St Ann Municipal Corporation Michael Belnavis is proud to have represented the Ocho Rios Division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation since 2016. “Being a businessman in Ocho Rios for over 30 years I am committed to the development of the town so that others too can benefit from it,” he said. He says some of the earlier achievements he fostered in Ocho Rios have had setbacks but he is determined to continue representation and partnerships to help Ocho Rios become a template for orderly and inclusive development. The former Mayor says the infrastructure works all across the Division and the representation of the people stand as a testament to his stewardship. He cited projects that had impacted the communities including Harrison Town, Great Pond, Pimento Walk, James Avenue, Breadnut Hill, and Buckfield. That work, he says, is his platform and the basis of his intention to win a second term, to continue serving the people. He identifies works including the rehabilitation of several roadways, erection of directional and community identification signs, water supply improvements, including the massive project at Lime Bottom, better garbage collection and keeping some major thoroughfares in Ocho Rios orderly. “I want Ocho Rios to be the best resort town in Jamaica. Remember when we were awarded for just that? We can do it. I understand the Division and I want to help lead in the setting down of the template to be followed by future generations,” Mr Belnavis said. He is proud that with his leadership and the support of the Ministry of Local Government, a proper shelter for street people was erected and is fully functional in Ocho Rios. However, he says there is more work to be done as he and other stakeholders try to make the changes and developments necessary for Ocho Rios to remain a place to be enjoyed by residents and continue being a prime destination for Jamaicans and visitors alike. NICOLA HAMILTON, PNPOCHO RIOS DIVISION, St Ann Municipal Corporation Nicola Hamilton has stepped forward to represent the Ocho Rios Division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC). Ms Hamilton was impressed with Ocho Rios when she came to the resort Town in St Ann, from the neighbouring parish of St Mary, thirty years ago. Now, she says, Ocho Rios has regressed so much that she believes she can help make the changes necessary to restore the resort town. The issues she says also extend to the communities around the resort town. One of the biggest and most unsettling, she says, is the lack of a proper, regular water supply system for the homes of people in the Division. She says tackling the water problem is her first priority. She is distressed and simultaneously motivated to do something about the despair in which she says so many of the young people from the communities are languishing. She says she wants to build their hope and help them change their circumstances. “I am not blaming anybody. I would like to be a voice for Ocho Rios. For sustainable progressive change, it will take a village,” says Ms Hamilton. Another area of concern is health care, particularly for the elderly whom she would like to see treated with greater care and empathy at health facilities. “So my overall vision is for a healthy, Ocho Rios, a vibrant Ocho Rios…a social and economically developed Ocho Rios,” she said. Ms Hamilton who is managing director of Omit, a housekeeping and landscaping company, believes that she can help make a difference for the Ocho Rios Division and its main town. She is banking on the people’s support to do so. On Election Day, February 26 VOTE NICOLA HAMILTON, VOTE PNP
