The Kiwanis club of Charlton-Alexandria on Saturday May 16, 2015 hosted their 16th Anniversary Prayer Breakfast and Awards ceremony, at the Brown’s Town Anglican Church, St. Ann. The morning’s proceeding commenced with a powerful praise and worship session, which was lead by honorary member Josette Williams. The renowned songstress, Anika Emanuel and Marcia Brown paved the way for guest speaker Pastor Lorane Chisolm who gave a powerful and fitting presentation in line with the theme “Preserving our children.”
After the powerful message from the pastor, she was presented with a plaque from the club in recognition of her continued work and support for the nation’s children. Also, a special award was presented to Dolphin Cove. It was received by Paul Norman, sales and marketing manager of Dolphin Cove, on behalf of Marilyn Burrowes, owner of Dolphin Cove for her significant contribution to St. Ann and the Kiwanis movement. Squitta Smith, Morris Hill Ltd. and Crazy P Snacks & Grill were also awarded for their invaluable support to Alexandria, Inverness, Brown’s Town and adjoining communities.
The function was well supported by community members, political representatives and other Kiwanis clubs, in and outside of the Division. The morning was spent praising, worshipping and raising funds for various charities involving children in and around the communities of St. Ann.
President of the club, Richard Austin commented that as a nation we need to be cognizant of the fact that there is a dark climate of wanton abuse and negative exposure of and to our children. He went on to say that if we continue to procrastinate in ensuring that our children develop and display the right values and attitude, our nation will be lost. We therefore must take the initiative to “Preserve Our Children”. With this in mind; the theme was coined as such. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child one community at a time.
