Kerisha’s Bar stages another Back-To-School treat

Thursday, August 24, was another big day in the Discovery Bay area of St Ann for treats and recognizing the needs of children going out for the first time, or returning to school this September.
On the same afternoon Kerisha Simpson, local resident and businesswoman, operator of Kerisha’s Vibes Bar, held a treat for the children of Old Folly and surrounding communities; Noranda was also having its GSAT scholarship award ceremony. In fact, Dr Dayton Campbell a medical doctor and MP had to shift between both functions, first at Kerisha’s where he did several medical check-ups for school reports before going to Noranda’s afternoon to evening GSAT recognition function.
Kerisha’s treats are now a staple and calendar event for the children and parents of Old Folly, just west of Discovery Bay, and surrounding communities.
Kerisha said thanks to God for being able to stage the treat for a fifth year. Children and their parents gathered in an orderly fashion, on a slip road, off the roadway across from the sea and listened to music until prayer was offered to get the treat going.
The children were then fed; with the teenagers and adults getting their meals after the toddlers and young primary age school children. She said special thanks to Chef Kingsley ‘Bunny’ Brown.
Assisting with serving and the treat generally were Trovis, Janel and Ann Marie.
The menu consisted of chicken, fish, rice and peas and mixed vegetable. Also provided were ice cream, sweets and snacks.
Children were given books, pencils and pens, rubber, glue, pencil cases and rulers.
Sponsors were: Philpot Mitchell, Fitzroy’s Wholesale & Retail; Denise Brown Bar, Dr Dayton Campbell, Marvin and Minho Restaurant, Rick So High Bar, David Rose Truck Part; Marcia’s Bay Watch Bar , Skinny and Boochie Don, Pang Touch International and Paul ‘Peabo’ Brown.
