Dr Kenneth Russel got the highest number of votes in Sunday’s PNP South East St Ann (SESA) election run-off to decide on the replacement for MP Lisa Hanna in the next General Elections.

Of the 778 delegates who voted Russell polled 358 votes, Wavell Hinds 245, and Patricia Duncan Sutherland 171. Four votes were spoilt.

Though Dr Russell clearly won the race his selection as the next PNP candidate is not automatic, as he failed to get 50 percent of the vote plus one. His 358 represented 46 percent of the votes cast.

PNP General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell said the party hierarchy will have to decide who will go forward as the candidate.

However, Constituency delegates said they expected the PNP leadership to endorse Russell who won and is a man from the Constituency.

Dr. Russell said he expected the PNP to “honour” the choice of delegates who want him to represent the South East St Ann seat in Parliament.

Hinds had been previously selected as an opinion poll and found he was more favoured in the Constituency. He also had the backing of several individuals in the PNP leadership.

Here’s part of the celebration of Russell’s victory in Sunday’s vote at Ferncourt High School in Claremont, the main town in the Constituency.
