The St Ann Justices of the Peace Association (SJPA) on Saturday, November 5, held their annual awards banquet at the Hibiscus Lodge Hotel, Ocho Rios under the theme ‘Education is the key’. The banquet saw several JPs from all across St Ann under one roof.
The banquet commenced with the singing of the National Anthem which was then followed by the opening remarks done by Keith Rowe. Pixley Irons gave the welcome and recognition to a few special guests, including: Justice Dennis Morrison, president of the Court of Appeal; Howard Isaacs, president of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association (JTA) and superintendent Gary Francis in charge of St Ann police. After the greetings by Norma Walters, custos of St Ann, the guests were feted to dinner.
Guest speaker Justice Dennis Morrison commended the awardees. “I must give my heartiest congratulations to the four JP’s awarded tonight for their hard work and dedicated services to their communities” Morrison said.
The four JP’s awarded were:Iva Walters-Baker (Northeast Zone Representative) Daphne Hall-Brown (Southwest Zone Representative) Joy Hinds(North West Representative) and Austin Hemmings (South East Zone Representative). All four awardees were presented with a plaque and citation.
