JLP KEEPS ST ANN COUNCIL

SHOCK DEFEAT OF PNP MINORITY LEADER, RETURN OF GARRICK

 

The JLP has retained control of the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) following Monday’s Local Government Election.

The final count was continuing Wednesday in St Ann Electoral Divisions as it was across the country, although some have been declared by the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ).

(Marline Thompson Kenyon created a shock upset Monday, defeating Winston Brown of the PNP.)

 

From the Preliminary count, the JLP won 11 of the 16 Divisions with the PNP taking the other five.

The most shocking result, based on the preliminary vote count, was in the Borobridge Division where Marline Thompson Kenyon defeated Winston Brown who had been councillor for 26 years. Brown was the Minority Leader in the last SAMC Administration.

Another significant result was the return of Lloyd Garrick who had been in the St Ann Council from 2003 to 2016 when he lost. He beat Delroy Kelly of the JLP who had won in a three-way race in 2016.

In the only three-way contest this time, Clovis ‘Junior’ Gohagen retained the Bensonton seat for the PNP.
