A St. Ann family is now trying to put the pieces together and move forward, as they lost one of their own in a terrible crash along a section of the Laughlands main road, near to Richmond Estate, St Ann.Dead is thirty-nine-year-old Ron Oneil Ward, alias ‘Troy’, a Jamaican-born businessman, who was a Canadian citizen. Ward grew up in Runaway Bay before migrating to Canada as a teenager.
Reports from the police are that on Tuesday, September 22 at about 6:15 p.m., Ward was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle on the Laughlands main road towards Priory when he overtook a vehicle and crashed into a tractor that was going across the main road. He was flung from the motorcycle. He was taken to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead. At the time of the incident, Ward was not wearing a helmet.
A family person
When The Times spoke to a family member of Ward, who wished to remain anonymous, he explained that it was hard for them losing a man who was “one of the major players in the family who supported them financially, mentally and physically.” He said it was very hard to accept his death. He was very jovial, friendly, very kind and he loved his family dearly,” the relative explained.Ron Oneil Ward the eldest of five siblings and left Jamaica as a teenager to reside in Canada. He gained his Canadian citizenship and married a Canadian. He had five children. It was explained that his wife and children, who are fairly young, are not coping very well with the loss.Ward had returned to the island on Sunday night, September 20. He had bought a house at Richmond Estate in Priory, St. Ann to serve as a vocation home for himself, his wife and children. He was in the island to put certain documents in place regarding the acquisition of the house.The relative explained that Ward was heading to a gas station some minutes away from Richmond Estate, when the accident occurred.
Investigations are ongoing
Up to Saturday, September 26, the relative of Ward explained that the police have not spoken to them in terms of any investigation into the crash.When The Times sought a response from the St. Ann traffic police, it was explained that investigations are ongoing at this time.
