Iva and Clive’s double pleasure party

‘The couple has taste’ is how one party reveler, impressed with the celebration party for well known socialites Lloyd “Clive” and Iva Baker, described it all. The location was the in-spot, Marley Beach near Boscobel, St Mary, for the twin event –15 years of marriage and Iva’s seventieth birthday.

Under a great tent at the water’s edge dozens of friends of the couple participated in the formalities on an evening of informality and fun as master of ceremonies, Pauline Haughton was, as usual on top of her game.  She had the group in stitches, as she remembered how 15 years ago, at the Bakers’ wedding, she occupied the same position as emcee.

A number of persons present, including Custos Norma Walters, were also in attendance 15 years ago at Laughing Waters, Ocho Rios when the Bakers tied the knot.  Custos was among the first to wish the Bakers Happy Anniversary and hope they will celebrate many, many more years.  So too, did Sir Kenneth Hall, Dr. Huntley Manhertz, Glen Case and SSP Wayne Cameron.

The Birthday girl was beaming and looking radiant, as she soaked up the many congratulations and good wishes on attaining the significant milestone of 70 years of age. Many said she just look 10 years younger.

The sumptuous buffet, comprised of mannish water, curried goat, sweet and sour chicken, jerk pork, sweet and sour pork, rice and peas, roti, garden salad, delicately prepared by Milton Sewell aka ‘Rice” and Clive Baker himself, who claims to do the best jerk this side of heaven, was enjoyed by all and was available even after the sun set on the beautiful cove. Delicious ice-cream served from a beautifully decorated CRAZY JIM Cart was available, so was a variety of desserts – cake, pudding and fresh fruits.

Mrs. Baker, who once ran the JTB Ocho Rios office, remarked that her sojourn to St. Ann from Kingston should have been for only six months, but was thankful she opted to stay on as she would not have met her significant other and lifetime soul-mate “Clive”.  She embraced her 70 years of life and thanked God for bringing her thus far.

The Bakers thanked all for attending and sharing in this most momentous occasion.  Many used the event to catch up with others they had not seen for years and exchange pleasantries as well as share facts and opinion on current events.

Among guests were: former Governor General Sir Kenneth Hall and Lady Hall, Custos Norma Walters; Pauline Smith, Ilene Manning, Vana Taylor, Eva Myers, Cynthia Graham, Arnold Bertram and Mrs Bertram, Kay Osborne,  Joan Williams, Roy Davidson and Mrs Davidson; Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin and Mrs. Lewin, SSP Wayne Cameron, former head of St Ann police, SSP Yvonne Martin-Daley; Bobby Jagan, Lynson Charlton and Mrs Charlton, Sharon Sinclair, Lesgar Murdock and Mrs Murdock, Gladstone Jarrett and Mrs Jarrett, Angela Strudwick, Dr. Huntley Manhertz, Headley Brown and Mrs Brown, Raymond Reece and Mrs Reece, Stanley Chambers and Mrs Chambers, Godfrey Dyer, Ian Pengelly and Mrs Pengelly, Michelle  Bingham and among overseas guests, from New York, Angela Escoffery, Daphne Schmidt , George Walker and Mrs Walker.
