HORRIFIC MURDER OF ELDERLY WOMAN

 

CRIMINAL BOUND HER HANDS AND FEET, SET FIRE TO HOUSE

Police were on the scene of a horrific murder and arson on Wednesday night, May 1, in St Ann.

Dead is Sylvia Barrett, better known as Ms Puncie, market vendor of Spring Garden in the parish.

 

Reports to the North Coast Times are that Ms Barrett, a well-known woman from Spring Garden, near to Lime Hall as well as Bamboo, was brutally murdered and then her house set ablaze.

Miss Barrett was in her early 70s but friends said she was very active and plied her trade at the St Ann’s Bay market every weekend.

Reports are that an intruder removed a section of the grill on her house. It is further reported that she was assaulted and her hands and feet were bound.

The details about how she was killed have not been confirmed but an area resident told North Coast Times it was horrible.

Fire was set to the house following the murder and a close relative of hers tried to put out the blaze while calling for help
