ZONE ‘I’ IN TURMOIL AS TACKY KNOCKED DOWN
Horace Clarke jumped to the top of the tables in Zone ‘I’ after inflicting a heavy 4-1 defeat on Tacky in daCosta Cup action on Wednesday, October 11.
(Horace Clarke have a good chance of finishing atop the Zone I table)
The loss, the second in a row for Tacky put them in jeopardy of not making it to the Inter Zone as one of the two best automatic qualifiers.
Horace Clarke’s Demario Lawes whipped in a hattrick, at home in Islington, to leave the boys from Gayle with a must-win scenario in the final match of the round against Wycliffe Martin, Saturday. The other Horace Clarke goal was scored by Mark Anderson. Tacky’s consolation came in the 73rd minute with the points already in the bag for Horace Clarke.
Horace Clarke Coach Neville Reid says there will be no ease up in their last match against St Mary High, though they seem certain to progress even if they don’t win.
Mr Reid told The North Coast Times he wants his team to come out on top of the Zone as top teams in the Inter-Zone do not play the first-placed team from other zones first
Meanwhile, St Mary High came back from 0-2 down against Wycliffe Martin to earn a draw and a point. That makes them level with Tacky on 17 points going into their final match, Saturday.
St Mary have been leaving it late in their matches to get results and, in fact, their run into the fight for a 2nd place was itself late.
Kihen Higgins helped save the day for St Mary with a free kick that made it 1-2 and then a penalty which he slotted home beautifully with 14 minutes left to play to make it 2-2.
Watch him score this penalty and keep alive St Mary’s chances
On Saturday it will be worth going long distances to see the two matches that will decide the final two places for the Inter-Zone.
