HILLCOVE PREP DECORATED IN SUCCESS

18 graduate at Kinder and GSAT levels

Hillcove High Achievers Preparatory School based in Brown’s Town, St Ann celebrated in fine style, the achievements of 18 of their studentsduring a graduation exercise held on Tuesday, July 8. Nine from the kindergarten section and nine grade six students, graduated in the ceremony at the Anglican Church Hall in Brown’s Town. The event, the third such for the institution which has been in existence for five years, was decorated in the success of the students, filled with affirmation for the hard work of parents and staff. The graduation exercise was chaired by president of the Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA), Leonie Bailey who indicated that she was proud of the growth and development of the institution. Chairman of the school board, Hopeton Campbell, while bringing greetings, said the way forward for Hillcove is to keep their eyes on the prize as a sound education is pivotal. In the principal’s report, Adita Sherwood listed a number of accolades won by the school in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competitions which included two silver medals and four bronze medals. She also said that academically, the school has maintained 100 percent and 90 percent mastery in literacy and numeracy respectively, at the Grade 4 level and that the students who sat the GSAT were placed at prominent schools such as Knox College, Munro, St Hilda’s and Brown’s Town High.“We want to commend our students for a job well done…it is not for school, but for life you learn,” Sherwood said. Following the year in review, top students, TrevoyAnnikey and Zoya Brown delivered the reflection. Both students said it was their year group’s promise to “take the next step up the educational ladder and continue to make you (Hillcove) proud.” Guest speaker, Jasper Lawrence focused his presentation on the role of parents in the lives of their children. Armed with studies, the former educator said that parenting is directly linked to a child’s success. The presentation section of the event belonged to TrevoyAnnikey who collected most of the sectional prizes and was awarded for his performance in the GSAT Mathematics, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. He was named top boy for the year 2014. He also copped the JMMB award for outstanding performance in GSAT. Zoya Brown was also in on the act, copping a number of sectional prizes and was named top girl. She was also top performer in Communication Task. The audience was thoroughly entertained by the students of Hillcove who danced and recited poems.
