All Achieved at Pathway One and Proficiency Level
The Hillcove High Achievers Prep School community is still basking in the glory of what the principal says is their best performance ever at Grade 6 school-leaving examinations.
Principal Adita Brown Sherwood who has been running the school in Brown’s Town, St Ann, since 2012 says “They have done exceptionally well. All the students achieved at Pathway One.”
Fifteen students of Hillcove Prep sat the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) Examinations this year. All of them were graded as Proficient, with eight of them achieving Highly Proficient in at least one of the subject areas of Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies.
Their performance in the Abilities test was particularly noteworthy, with 11 of the 15 students performing better than eighty percent of candidates from across Jamaica who sat this year’s PEP examinations. That’s according to data from the Ministry of Education and Youth.
The top performer overall, and Top Girl, was T’Aeja Anson and Top Boy was Javoy Jones. They both were highly proficient in all the areas tested. Both will be attending the school of their choice, York Castle High.
The runner-up girl was Aixa Harris and the runner-up boy Caleb Chunnu.
The placements based on the PEP saw the following numbers attending high schools named: York Castle High – six; St Hilda’s Diocesan, four; Munro College – one; Discovery Bay High two; Brown’s Town High one and William Knibb High one.
Mrs Sherwood praised Grade Six teacher Marlene Nevers who has been teaching at the school for the last ten years.
The students’ successes were celebrated at their Graduation exercise at Brown’s Town Community College on Tuesday, July 4. Guest Speaker was Tamaica Bell, Liaison Officer of Church Teachers College.

Among those bringing greetings was Education Officer Romane Thomas. He praised the performance of the school, pointing to the results in the Abilities Test and commending them that all 15 students from Hill Cove performed at the top level, Pathway One.
He commended Hillcove Prep on its performance.
Chairman Reginald Thorpe was also full of praise for the students and staff and also encouraged the graduates to continue to live their motto “Reaching for The Stars and Beyond.”
Principal Sherwood, in thanking parents, said it was not name-brand knapsacks, bags, and shoes that counted. She said it was the effort of teachers, perseverance and hard work of students, and parental involvement that allowed the class of 2023 to do so well. She challenged parents to understand that preparation for the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) began at Kindergarten.
At the ceremony, eighteen (18) children graduated from the Kinder Department.
Cash donations were made by JMMB to the top PEP performing boy and girl.
