The sweetest spot for all your candy cravings is at Heather May’s Candy Shoppe, located at Shop 28 at Ocean Village Shopping Centre in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

The candy shop is said to be the only authentic candy shop on the North Coast. Once you step through the doors, you are transported into a wonderland filled with great tasting candies.

Heather May’s Candy Shoppe, which has as its slogan, ‘For all your candy treats and sweet eats’, is managed by the husband and wife team of Tony and Heather Munroe. Both have extensive experience in events planning and events management, matched with years of experience in the hotel industry.

Mr Munroe explained that the store opened its doors in December of 2016 and the store has since gained much positive feedback from several individuals. In an interview with The Times, he explained the concept behind the establishment of Heather May’s Candy Shoppe.

“I was observing TV one day and saw candy shops operating in other countries. Realizing that it’s really not a part of our culture to have a candy store, I thought it would be a great idea to do so based on the fact that there is such a global interest in our cuisine… Then I realized we have a mixed market that I have visitors and locals. The locals would be interested in the foreign candy. So we decided to put everything together and do a candy store,” Mr Munroe explained.

The line of foreign candy includes a variety of sour gummies, mints and lollipops. There are also fangled candies for kids, flash pops, push pops, sour powder and ring pops. There are also the widely craved candy products such as, butterfingers, Oh Henry and Baby Ruth candies.

There is also a wide variety of chocolate products such as chocolate kisses, chocolate bars, milk chocolate and chocolate eggs.

The local products for sale include gizzadas, paradise plums, tamarind balls, peanut brittle and cotton candy, which is made from the shop’s own cotton candy machine. There are also local chocolate products on sale to include those from the Umium brand, such as chocolate spread and rum chocolate.

Despite the store having a wide range of candies on offer, Mr Munroe pointed out that the store is not focused on selling candies over the counter, but the services that are offered.

The shop has several special services, including unique candy bouquets. There is also on offer the service of creating a candy bar for whatever setting you may like.

The store also caters towards providing candies for various occasions such as kiddies’ birthday parties, wedding favors, sweet-16 parties and as corporate gifts.

According to Mr Munroe, the response from individuals, especially from young ladies has been overwhelming as they have noted that this is their dream and Heather May’s Candy Shoppe offers that kiddies’ experience.

Mr Munroe said that in the future they will offer coffee, including gourmet coffee on sale and also cold beverages. They are also looking forward to expanding their business and partnering with the schools and hotels.

“It’s a new concept for Ocho Rios and Jamaica. We are hoping that it will take off,” Heather Munroe explained. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Heather May’s Candy Shoppe is the place to shop for this romantic season to give your loved one something different.

“Chocolate is a big thing for Valentine’s and we will be offering a wide range of chocolates. You can also come in and we create a gift basket or a candy bouquet for your loved one,” Mr Munroe said, while adding that presentation and service is most important in the business.

Heather May’s Candy Shoppe is opened from Mondays to Saturdays at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
