Police said they shot dead a man who attacked them in Montego Bay yesterday.
Dead is 20-year-old Ricky Murdock, otherwise called ‘Rick’. Police say a one 9mm pistol and a magazine containing three 9mm rounds of ammunition were seized. It is alleged that Murdock was shot and killed during a confrontation with the police on Harbour Street, Montego Bay, St. James on Wednesday, July 5.
Reports from the Montego Bay Police are that about 5:15 p.m., a police team approached Murdock who was charged for robbery and was a suspect in several other crimes in the division. They said that on seeing the police, Murdock pulled out a firearm, fired shots at the officers and then ran. Other members of the Police team saw what was happening but were also fired upon when they attempted to accost him. Murdock was eventually shot, and his firearm taken from him.
The matter has been reported to the Inspectorate of Constabulary (IOC) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
