Etana

Jamaican songstress Etana released the first single “Trigger” from her upcoming album earlier in the year, and has received rave reviews and airplay on some of the top radio shows across the world. The song depicts the harsh conditions of a young man who has been rendered jobless due to deplorable economic conditions. His back is against the wall as his mother suffers from Cancer and he turns to the dark side of society. Fans are still heavily anticipating the release of the full album ‘I Rise’ on October 28, and the singer says she is doing tours to promote the album.

Wayne Marshall

After dropping his critically acclaimed album ‘Tru Colors’ and touring the globe alongside Stephen “Ragga” Marley this year, Wayne Marshall is poised to take his sound to the next plateau. On August 27, 2014, the Jamaican dancehall singer will make his national TV debut performance on BET 106 & Park for their special Caribbean Carnival takeover episode. That same week, he plans to drop his hip-hop flavored video (directed by Maybach Music’s Jon J) for the album’s latest single ‘Go Harder’. The multi-talented singjay shot the video in sunny Miami with featured artistes Waka Flocka, Ace Hood and Cham as well as Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, who produced most of Marshall’s new album. Hailed by the Associated Press as “a refreshing curve to the dancehall game,” ‘Tru Colors’ is Marshall’s first album in over a decade. The 13-track collection, released on the Marley-owned label, Ghetto Youths International and distributed through Thirty Tigers/Sony RED, was written almost entirely by Marshall. Tessanne Chin, NBC’s The Voice winner, also contributes lyrics on the album’s closing track ‘On The End’.

Buju Banton

Incarcerated Reggae/Dancehall entertainer, Mark Myrie, more popularly known as Buju Banton has been granted approval by a U.S. appeals court to make oral arguments in a bid for a new trial as he attempts to overturn his conviction on drug-related charges. The breakthrough came recently following an appeal submitted in May by Buju’s legal team.

Its head Professor Charles Ogletree asked that Buju be granted a new trial and oral arguments on the basis that the singer was entrapped by a paid U.S. informant. Further it was argued that his case was compromised after a juror in his 2011 trial was found to have unlawfully researched aspects of the case while it was taking place.

Nick Cannon/Mariah Carey

A long running joke about the Nick Cannon/Mariah Carey six-year marriage was that Mariah wore the pants in the relationship. Even as the union between the two entertainment stars appears to be collapsing, it looks as if Mariah is still in charge. Reports are that, Mariah and Nick have signed a confidentiality agreement as part of their pending divorce, but reportedly Cannon is the only one who is not allowed to speak about the split. Apparently, Nick can talk about how the two are now living separately, but he cannot talk about the actual divorce or face “severe financial penalties.” Mariah is allegedly open to announce the divorce on her terms. Recently, Nick did publicly confirm the couple has been estranged for a while.
