GIRL SHOT AT OCHO RIOS HIGH WITH GUN BROUGHT BY SCHOOLMATE

Police are trying to determine how a 14-year-old boy came in possession of a gun that he took to Ocho Rios High School where a girl was shot in a classroom.
The 12-year-old girl shot at Ocho Rios High School, St Ann, on Monday, June 17 has been released from hospital after treatment of a wound to the thigh.
Two of her schoolmates are in police custody following the shooting when a gun accidentally went off.
Police confirmed that the incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. in a classroom at the school.
The girl was shot when a boy pulled the trigger of a gun, brought to school by a male classmate. The pistol was in the knapsack of a Grade 7 boy when the incident took place. Other boys had been called to check out the gun which was hidden in the knapsack.
The girl was struck by a bullet and taken by school staff to St Ann’s Bay Hospital. . Police officers from the Ocho Rios station rushed to the school which became a crime scene.

Investigators are trying to establish how the boy, from the Pineapple community, came in possession of the firearm and where it came from. Police believe it was stolen.
