GAYLE, HIGHGATE SET TO CLASH

SANDALS/COSTLEY T 20 STARTS IN ST MARY, SUNDAY

 

Gayle and Highgate will clash in the feature match of the Sandals/Costley Construction-sponsored St Mary T20 Blast on Sunday, December 17 at the Mango Valley Oval in the parish at 1:30 pm.

In the opening encounter scheduled for 10 a.m., the powerful Boscobel Sports Club square off with a youthful United All Stars aggregation.

The competition will feature six teams divided into two zones, with zonal teams playing each other twice and the top two in each zone advancing to the semi-finals.

Zone 1 comprises Buff Bay United, the guest team; Boscobel, and United All Stars. In Zone 2 are Gayle, Highgate, and Mango Valley.

The feature match will pit highly fancied Gayle against a strong Highgate team in a match that is worth travelling miles to see. The Highgate team is bubbling with confidence as they boast the likes of St Mary parish representatives Darrien Walker and Gihon Murdock while Gayle will be led by St Mary parish team stalwarts Sheldon Pryce, Jermaine Chisholm, Jevaughn Hinds, Javiere Green and Anthony Walters.

In the opening match, Boscobel should start favourites with the return of former Jamaica Under-19 stalwart Tyrone Daley who recently completed a stint in league cricket in England where he had an outstanding season. The team will also include the likes of former West Indies Under-19 player Andel Gordon and Tacky High schoolboy Rojae Brown. The young United All-Stars squad will feature schoolboys Devonte Miller and Dijon Taylor.

“Cricket lovers in the parish of St Mary are really looking forward to the matches,” said an upbeat Junior Matison, First vice president of the St Mary Cricket Association. “All the teams should be at full strength and are rearing to go. The season has been drawing a lot of attention due to the emphasis on young players, and we expect strong support from our cricketing fraternity,” he said.

Third vice president of the St. Mary Cricket Association, Carlos Francis lauded the return of perennial sponsors Sandals Resorts and Costley Construction as Title Sponsors and urged the players to focus on keeping a high level of discipline.
