‘Friends’ settle dispute in court over wounding incident

A man, who used a stick to hit another male considered to be his friend paid $4,000 after successful mediation into the matter.

The strange case appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, May 11.

The accused man before the court was Jerome Rhoden.

The charges that he was indicted for was not revealed in court.

However, the prosecutor told the court that Rhoden and the male complainant were friends and always would run jokes with each other.

Further allegations are that on February 14, both men were joking with each other. However, Rhoden became boisterous and used a stick to hit the complainant to the arm causing bruising and swelling.

Before Rhoden was pleaded on the charges, the complainant spoke to the crown prosecutor.

The prosecutor later told senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller that the complainant was willing to go to mediation in the matter.

The matter was stood down for the mediation to take place.

When the matter was brought back before the court, the terms of the mediation agreement was read by the judge.

The complainant is to receive $4,000 as a part of the mediation agreement.

In the light of the successful mediation, the prosecution offered no evidence against Jerome Rhoden in the matter.

Judge Wentworth-Miller advised Rhoden that he needed to control his temper.

He was later released from the matter.
