JOYLAN SILVERA IN POLICE CUSTODY IN CONNECTION WITH WIFE’S MURDER
Former West St Mary Member of Parliament Joylan Silvera is spending Thursday night, January 18, in police custody as a suspect in the murder of his wife, Melissa Silvera.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Fitz Bailey, in a statement Thursday, said detectives assigned to the Major Investigations Division took Jolyan Silvera into custody as a suspect in the murder of his wife Melissa Silvera.
According to DCP Fitz Bailey, police followed several lines of inquiries after a post-mortem revealed that Mrs Silvera had not died from natural causes, but as a result of possible gunshot wounds.
It had earlier been reported that she was found dead at home on the morning of November 10, and had died of natural causes.
DCP Bailey said following investigations by police, a file was sent to the Offices of the Director of Public Prosecution who ruled that there was sufficient evidence to arrest Mr. Silvera as a suspect.
Mrs Silvera was buried last weekend, in St Andrew.
The police are still asking anyone who has information to assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stop at 311, the NIB Tip Line at 811, Major Investigation Division at 876-758-5048 or visit the nearest police station.
