The risks posed to households and businesses by fire in St Ann, due to the unavailability of fire engines, were exposed at Monthly meeting of the St Ann Parish Council last week. All the fire units at both the St. Ann’s Bay and Ocho Rios Fire Statinos are out of service and the one unit at the Brown’s Town station has to be responding to every fire call in the parish. This has forced fire fighters to seek the assistance of residents to fight fires, especially in areas where fire fighters are unable to respond due to lack of mobility. This alarming disclosure was made by assistant superintendent of the St. Ann Fire Department, P. Robinson, during Thursday’s General monthly meeting of the St. Ann Parish Council. He was responding to questions on the state of the fire service in St. Ann.Assistant superintendent Robinson said two of the fire trucks were sent to Kingston for repairs but that the Dept. doesn’t know how soon theyDespite the depletion in the reponse capability of the St. Ann Fire Department, bush fires continue to rage in various areas across the parish. Assistant Supt. Robinson said there were a total of 172 fires in St. Ann during August and that of number 144 were bush fires.
