Fined for hitting elderly woman

man abuse

A man was fined $8,000 after he pleaded guilty to hitting an elderly woman with a stick, when she allegedly came into his yard and began sprinkling something from a bottle.

When he appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate Court on October 2, the accused, Oral Hudson, said he asked the complainant what she was doing in his yard after seeing her sprinkling the contents from a bottle, on August 14. He said he then proceeded to push her out of his premises.

“She did have a stick in har hand and mi tek it from her and lick har wid it, Your Honour,” Hudson explained.

When resident magistrate Andrea Thomas asked the accused if he knew what was in the bottle, he said no.

According to the complainant however, she did not go into Hudson’s yard but was instead walking through a track beside his house to get to her neighbour “Miss Tiny.”

“Once you took the stick from her, you had no right to hit her,” RM Thomas told Hudson.

Along with the $8000 fine, Hudson was told by Thomas to give the accused $1,000, apparently for medical expenses, or serve three months in prison.

He asked for some time to get the money to be paid and the magistrate told him that the police officers would facilitate that but it must be paid by the end of the day.
