McKoy’s News

Violet Mosse- Brown was born on March 10, 1900 in Trelawny. She was born to John Mosse a sugarcane boiler and Elizabeth Riley. She was baptized in the Baptist faith at age 13 and had been a devoted Baptist up until her death. She was one of four children born to her parents.

Violet was the world’s oldest person following the death of Emma Morano. Mrs. Brown died on September 15, 2017 having spent five months as the world’s oldest living person. It is believed that upon her death, Aunt Violet was the last living subject of Queen Victoria’s reign. Following her death her successor, as the world’s oldest person became Nabi Tajima of Japan.

Aunt V as she was affectionately known, married Augustus Gaynor Brown and they had one daughter and she had six children in total. Aunt V left four surviving children. Her eldest son passed away before she did.

Her first child Harland Fairweather was 97 years old when he died and he was believed to have been the oldest living person to have a living parent.

Miss Violet had attributed her longevity to not eating chicken or pork.

Her Thanksgiving Service was held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 and there were hundreds of persons present to say their final farewells. Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports Olivia Grange, was present at the funeral, representing the Prime Minister.

Her family members fondly recall her unceasing faith and integrity.

The church rang with joyous songs of praise and thanksgiving for the late Violet Mosse-Brown. In addition to her four children left to mourn, there are  grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
