A 16-year-old St Ann girl, who is alleged to have stabbed a 33-year-old woman, remains in state care, while police investigators are preparing a file to be submitted to state prosecutors.
Loretta Nelson was stabbed to death while allegedly trying to quell an argument between two teenagers in Nine Miles, St Ann on Sunday night, December 18.
The St Ann police say that once the file is submitted, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is to make a ruling on whether charges should be laid, based on an assessment of the statements.
Reports from the police are that Nelson, who was a farmer and vendor, was stabbed at about 7:10 pm on Sunday, December 18.
This was after she intervened in an argument between her 14-year-old daughter and the 16-year-old girl in the community.
Further reports are that the teenage girls were involved in an argument when Nelson’s daughter reported the matter to Nelson.
Nelson was reportedly stabbed with a pair of scissors when she intervened in the dispute.
She was pronounced dead at hospital.
The dispute was allegedly over who had won a dance contest.
