FERNCOURT ALUMNI ASSN GIVES BACK

BACK-TO-SCHOOL HEALTH FAIR STILL BEING COMMENDED

OCHO RIOS, St Ann; Sept. 16, 2024

They are back at school now but the more than 100  students who benefitted from the Ferncourt High Alumni Association South Florida chapter’s health fair are still expressing gratitude.

The health fair that provided free services for Ferncourt High students and the wider community of Claremont, St Ann, was the first of its kind for the Association that offered services including school medicals, immunization in partnership with the Ministry of Health, along with eye screening from Courts Optical.

According to Dr. David Ramsey, past president of the Association and one of the organizers, the team of volunteers consisted of six nurses, three doctors, one doctor assistant, and two nurse practitioners, along with local partners.

“This is our first event of this kind to the school and at large to the community and we are pleased with the outcome. We are just giving back as we got help.” Dr. Ramsey stated.

Past student and principal of Ferncourt High, Sheldon Thomas said he welcomed the initiative of the alumni, giving back to their alma mater and the community at large.

“ We appreciate these positive kinds of initiatives. As a country school,  this kind of event puts an ease on parents’ pockets. The parents and students are pleased with this initiative and I do hope it happens again next year and bigger and better.” Thomas said.

The back-to-school health fair was a two-day event at the school in Claremont. The first day was in August and the second one held on September 2.
