TWO MORE DIE FROM EASTER SUNDAY BUS CRASH

Two more people – a child and a woman — have succumbed to injuries received in the bus crash in Fern Gully, St Ann on Easter Sunday, March 31.

The two additional confirmed deaths mean three people have died as a result of the crash.

North Coast Times had reported that a bus taking people from the Corporate Area on an excursion to Ocho Rios slammed into an embankment in Fern Gully at about 11:30 on Easter Sunday morning. A woman from Kingston, 49-year-old Suzette Thomas died at the scene.

The St Ann police say the two others died of their injuries between Saturday, April 6, and Monday morning, April 8.

They have been identified as eight-year-old Kayla Brown, a student of Alpha Primary School, and 58-year-old Noreen Allen, both of 9Wildman Street, Kingston 16.

Kayla Brown was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Children’s Hospital, and  Noreen Allen was pronounced dead at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024. Investigation continues.

Police had reported that about 11:30 on Sunday, March 31, a Nissan Caravan bus was transporting 16 children and seven adults on an excursion, to Ocho Rios. A tyre on the bus blew out and the driver lost control of the bus on its descent along the winding Fern Gully road. The bus crashed into an embankment and several people were thrown onto the roadway.

Passersby, police, and fire department personnel transported the injured to St Ann’s Bay Hospital where Ms Thomas was pronounced dead. Six others were reported seriously injured. Three of them, including two children were transferred to medical facilities in the Corporate Area.
