Senior Superintendent of Police in Charge of St Ann, Dwight Powell confirmed the death but did not say it was suicide. He said investigations were continuing and the circumstances were indicating it could be suicide. He expressed deep regret at the incident and expressed condolences to her family and former colleagues.
Reports are that the ex-policewoman was in a chartered taxi returning from the Firearm Licensing Authority branch in Discovery Bay, St Ann. She had gone there and picked up her firearm that had been in storage there.
Further reports are that they were travelling on the Exchange Road, outside Ocho Rios, toward her destination in St Mary. About 10 a.m., on reaching the intersection with Prosper Hall Road the driver heard a sound as if a gun was being charged or a round was entering the chamber of the firearm. Then came a loud explosion. He saw Ms Flynch a bullet wound to the head slumped over on the seat.
The driver of the chartered taxi immediately turned the vehicle around and headed to St Ann’s Bay Hospital. The ex-cop was pronounced dead on arrival.
SSP Powell expressed condolences to her family and all her former colleagues. He said her death was “deeply regretted.”
