Several justices of the peace from across the North Coast, dignitaries and well-wishers turned out in their numbers at the installation for the new custos for the parish of St. Mary, Errol Johnson. The event was held at the St. Mary High School in Highgate, St. Mary on Thursday, August 20.
Governor General Sir Patrick Allen officially installed Errol Johnson as custos of the parish. The event was held at the institution where Mr Johnson spent twenty years as principal. The installation of Custos Johnson follows the passing of former custos, Jeffery McKitty, earlier this year.
Several officials were present at the event, including: the mayor of Port Maria, Levan Freeman; Egbert Parkins, acting assistant commissioner of police; Chief Justice Zaila McCalla; Senator Robert Montague and MP Dr. Morais Guy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sir Patrick said he has confidence in the new custos’ ability to do his job.
Meantime, Custos Johnson, who is principal of Islington High School, during his address spoke of eradicating negative factors to include crime and indiscipline, which he says is retarding the country’s progress.
Very deserving
Several persons expressed their confidence in Custos Johnson and congratulated him. Esther Taylor, a Justice of the Peace serving the communities of Lucky Hill and Three Hills expressed her best wishes to Custos Johnson. “I wish him well in his post as custos and I hope he gets the support of the justices to move St. Mary,” she said.
Another Justice of the Peace, Denese Morrison, also hailed Custos Johnson for his achievement and noted that he was a good human being.
Former head boy of St. Mary High and assistant pastor of the Port Maria Circuit of Seventh Day Adventist Churches, Phillip Washington explained to The Times that he benefitted immensely from Mr Johnson’s leadership while he was principal of St. Mary High.
