Elder on sex charge has bail extended

The church elder, charged for engaging in sexual acts with a minor earlier this year, had his bail extended.

The prosecution is awaiting documentation from the Communications Forensic and Cybercrime Unit (CFCU) to move forward in the case.

The elder is 41-year-old Narry Hudson of Heywood Hall, St Mary. When the case was mentioned last Thursday, May 4, the prosecutor indicated that a medical was now on file in the case.

The case is now set for mention for the CFCU documents on July 27. Hudson’s bail was extended by senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller for that date.

Hudson was charged on Thursday, February 2 with grievous sexual assault, sexual grooming and having sex with a person under 16-years-old.

Hudson, an elder at Heywood Hall Seventh Day Adventist Church in St. Mary, was taken into custody by the Port Maria Police on Tuesday night, January 31.

He was arrested after the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) collected statements from a 14-year-old girl.

Hudson was later offered bail by senior parish judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller in the sum of $400,000 with one surety, when he appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Monday, February 13.

As a condition of his bail, Hudson was to reside outside of the parish, in Portland.

Bail was offered after the prosecution had no objections to him being granted bail and the police having conducted the necessary interventions in the Heywood Hall community.

It was alleged at that time that persons from the area had not been supporting the complainant and her mother and had wanted them to leave the area.
