MONEAGUE COLLEGE EXPANDS ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS

The first recipient of the scholarship awarded in honour of Domonic Strachan is Rajae Cann, a second-year student of Moneague, St Ann.
The scholarship is in memory of the son of former Moneague College Board chair and former MP for South East St Ann, Ambassador Aloun Assamba.
Ambassador Assamba made the symbolic presentation of a cheque during the Moneague College’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 16.

Scholarships and Grants with a value of $18 Million were handed out to more than 150 students. Among those scholarships were those from private individuals and entities including:
- Nakia McDonald & Chengdu Scholarship
- Girl Guides Association of Jamaica
- St Ann Justices of the Peace
- Keisha Hamilton
- Dr Andre Grant
- Jack Wilmot
- Acid Protective Services
- Batch 25
- Gloria Wood
- Tourism Action Club
Ambassador Assamba told The North Coast Times that she had decided, before the Thanksgiving Service for her late son, Domonic, to establish a scholarship in his name. She said the contribution taken at the service was more than $300,000. She said the Domonic Strachan Scholarship Fund was over one million dollars.

Criteria for the Domonic Strachan Scholarship were being developed, However, Ambassador Assamba said she wanted to have a Moneague College student benefit now, so she asked the college to administer it starting this Academic Year, even as she refines the terms of the scholarship.
Cann, in an interview with The North Coast Times, said the scholarship was very important to him. He said the scholarship fund would help him with expenses in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Programme in which he is enrolled.
