The case of murder against a St Ann tour bus operator for killing his Ocho Rios girl friend could have a date set for trial this month.
Charged is Kevin Peterkin, a tour bus operator. He is charged for the 2011 murder of his 22-year-old common-law wife, Sasha Edwards, a massage therapist of Milford Road in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
When Peterkin’s came before the St. Ann Circuit Court on Monday, October 10, the court was told that a witness vital to the case was back on the island and the intention as to complete the case while she is here.
That witness was abroad when the case was called up earlier this year and though two others were available the trial was set back.
A mention date was set for October 21 when a trial date will be finalized. Peterkin’s bail was extended.
Reports are that on June 22, 2011 Edwards, was stabbed to death during a fight with Peterkin at the house where they both lived at the time, In Milford. The fight was said to have been over an alleged affair between Peterkin and Edward’s cousin.
During the Hilary session of the Circuit Court in January it was revealed that it was the mother of Sasha Edwards, who had heard screaming and had rushed to the scene of the alleged crime. The mother then saw Peterkin rushing pass her and he reportedly said “Yuh see all you.” He was covered in blood.
When the matter appeared before the St. Ann Circuit Court on Wednesday May 25, Crown Counsel Larona Montague-Williams told the court that only two of three witnesses were present. The third in the matter was overseas, hence, the delay of trial.
In January, the then assistant director of public prosecutions, Keri-Ann Kemble told the court that Edwards received a stab wound to the neck and also another injury to her hand.
A post-mortem report indicated that she had died as a result of shock and hemorrhage caused from the stab wound.
