Couples whip SADCO to advance to semis

Defending champions Couples Tower Isle, smashed SADCO 4-2 in the Sandals sponsored St Ann/ St Mary Business House Football Competition on Friday, August 28 at the Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann.The night match which was played under the lights attracted a massive crowd as Couples Tower Isle is known as one of the favorites in the competition. SADCO is also a top team in the competition. However, their best striker Segree Murray, failed last week to lead his team to a win over the mighty hotel men.Both teams came to the game with energy but Couples Tower Isle showed much better skills in passing, speed and tackling. SADCO displayed some impressive football as well as they are known for their great counter-attacking play.The first goal of the match came in the 35th minute for Couples Tower Isle through their #11 Striker, Dwayne Silvera. He received a pass which landed in the 6-yard-box. Silvera then took a powerful low shot which sent SADCO’s goal keeper diving in vain.

SADCO had the chance to equalize on many occasions but failed to capitalize on their chances. SADCO’s goal keeper Claydon Ennis minutes later failed to save another shot from Couples Tower Isle’s Dwayne Silvera. The speedy striker again broke through SADCO’s left-back defence line and made a viscous shot from the 18-yard-box which clipped the inside of the right goal post and tricked the keeper, ending up in the back of the net. This made the match 2-0. The Couples spectators were elated and were in strong voice.During the half time break the coach of Couples Tower Isle, Carlinton Dodd could be seen urging his players to close the gaps and not to let any mistakes happen as they were on their way to be winners of the Zone B and heading into the Semi finals. On the other hand SADCO couldn’t believe their goalless position in the match at half time.On the commencement of the second half SADCO seemed to have gassed up and started to fire several shots towards Couples goal. In the 51st minute #14 Kevin Graham fouled a Couples player in the 6-yard-box and gave up a penalty for his team. SADCO heads sank.Up to take to penalty for Couples Tower Isle was #18 Gregory Tape, Tape who took a terrific penalty.. Carlos Smith #14 of Couples Tower Isle then placed his name on the score sheet. This made the match 4-0Moments later SADCO got a penalty but their top striker #10 Segree Murray, bushed it as the ball hit the cross bar and bounced out. In the 76th minute it was #5 Marlon Buckley who gave SADCO their first goal. Shortly after that #21 Leon Ellis of SADCO struck home a beautiful lofted ball a few meters outside the 18-yard-box. This goal gave SADCO confidence to get another but it was too late.Couples Tower Isle will now advance to the semi final round where they will play NERHA in a 6 pm match on Wednesday, September 2.
