Councillors thank police though crime up in St Ann.

Councillor for the Dry Harbour Division in the St Ann Municipal Corporation (SAMC) Carlton Ricketts was among councillors thanking the St Ann police for their continued crime fighting efforts.

The police confirmed Thursday that murders and some other crimes were continuing to rise this year over last year. So far this year, 55 people have been murdered in St Ann compared to 48 in the same period, up to October 9, last year.

However, Senior Superintendent of Police Dwight Powell told the monthly meeting of the SAMC that the police had employed several strategies including going after motor cyclists and people using taxis to rob.

Councillor Ricketts joined Councillor for Ocho Rios Michael Belnavis and Councillor for Beecher Town Ian Bell, among others, in welcoming the actions of police.

Here is Councillor Ricketts in his brief comments.
