CORONATION DRUG STORE CELEBRATES 60 YEARS

Pharmacy in Claremont gives thanks and commends loyalty of customers for years of service

The Coronation Drug Store,  in Claremont, St Ann celebrated their sixtieth (60th ) Anniversary on Friday, December 20 on the grounds of the pharmacy. Customers came out in their numbers to celebrate with the staff of the pharmacy on reaching another milestone in business and service to the community.

The pharmacy was opened in 1953 by Brandon Brown who was  the sole pharmacist for 60 years. Mr. Brown was unable to be at the celebration as he is off the island. A new pharmacist Ms. Cheryl Woodstock has taken over the dispensing functions.

Reverend Andrew Reid, from the St. Matthews Anglican Church, Claremont,  did the prayer to start the function.  The function  was chaired by a very ebullient  Anthony Meredith.

Customers were also offered the opportunity of a mini-health fair and received free cholesterol test, diabetes test, and blood pressure test. Leonard Brown, son of Brandon Brown, expressed  gratitude to the loyal customers who have helped the Coronation Drug store reach its 60th year in business.

Flossie Russell, 104 years old, who has been a loyal customer to the pharmacy since 1953 did the honors of the cake cutting. After the cake was cut, as Mrs Russell started to give her remembrance since the opening of the pharmacy in 1953, more people started to gather to hear the words of this wise woman. She stated that it was no bed of rose for Mr Brown back in 1953 in getting the business up and running and that he faced several challenges back then but overcome them gradually. Mrs Russell also mentioned that she has always been getting all get prescriptions filled at the Coronation drug store ever since it has been in business and gave God thanks that she is around to see the pharmacy reach its 60th anniversary.

Gloria Johnson past head of Moneague College, Ferdy Johnson, Shirley Lee, business person, and others  congratulated the members of staff, Mr. Brown, and his son on the fantastic job they have been doing.
