A 21-year-old woman was viciously attacked and killed at a bar she operated in Retreat, St Ann, Sunday, August 2.Dead is Shana Gay Williamson, bar operator of Philadelphia, near Brown’s Town.Police have named 30-year-old Leisha Matthews, her ex-lover and father of her child as a suspect. Matthews is from St Thomas and lived for sometime with Williamson in Philadelphia but she ended the relationship citing repeated physical abuse.Her family says Williamson moved away from the district to Retreat for a fresh start and lived next to the bar she operated. She repeatedly refused his requests for them to resume the relationship.Williamson’s aunt told The Times , that the young woman had been repeatedly beaten by the man and had lost twins after he beat her and kicked her in the stomach sending her to hospital, sometime ago.Reports are that shortly after 1 p.m., Williamson was at the bar she operated in Retreat, near to the St Ann/Trelawny border when a man came to the bar and started accusing her of several things. The man threatened to set her ablaze and threw gasolene on her, from a container he carried. Reports are he made a failed attempt at lighting a match.Williamson ran from the bar and up to a neighbour’s house with the man in pursuit. He caught up with her as she climbed several stairs, pulled her back and she fell. He jumped on top of her and used a knife to cut her throat. At the time, there was no one at the house where she sought refuge.Williamson’s mother said she had visited with and seen her daughter only minutes before the attack. “She tell me she love me…” the mother said as she broke down for a third time in Brown’s Town Monday morning, while being taken to hospital.
She leaves a three-year-old child.
