One of St Ann’s most wanted was shot dead by police this morning (Nov.8) in the parish.
He is Devroy Vernon, otherwise called ‘Peboo’ of Mansfield Heights, or Falklands, Ocho Rios. Vernon was wanted in connection with three murders, the latest of which was the shooting death of a taxi operator in Boscobel, in neighbouring St Mary, last month.
Police said Vernon was killed during a shootout in Parry Town, near Ocho Rios about 4 this morning during a police operation. A policeman was shot and wounded in the gun battle.
The North Coast Times has been reporting on police efforts to apprehend Vernon. In this week’s issue, the paper highlighted a call by the St Mary police head, DSP Dwight Powell for Vernon to turn himself in.
