The police high command is said to be angry over the circumstances under which a firearm was stolen from the home of a policewoman in the troubled Falklands community two weeks ago.
Head of the St Ann police, SSP Wayne Cameron acknowledged, in a press conference a week ago, that the firearm had been stolen from the home of a policewoman. The online news service, Loop News had wrongly reported that a firearm had been stolen from a male cop.
Reports to The Times are that thieves broke into the house of the female officer. It is reported that they used a ladder to enter the first floor bedroom of the cop while she was at home. The cop had returned home well after midnight, and had gone to bed.
Inside reports from police suggest that the thieves entered the house, ransacked the room in which the cop was sleeping and removed her service revolver from a bag. Sources said the cop was on leave and questioned whether it was the Force-issued revolver.
A police officer who spoke with The Times, on condition of not being identified, said local police were shocked because of what could have happened when the thieves found the gun.
But they said the police high command and the under pressure Police Commissioner were livid over the news of another gun in the hands of criminals, especially in a community under the gun.
